“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
If we have a problem…be it physical sickness, emotional emptiness or spiritual attacks…that come and go over a long period of time, we naturally start dreading its recurrence. But this reaction only makes matters worse. In the end when the problem occurs we will be in pain…and when it subsides we will be in fear of it returning soon.
What happens is that when the painful situation returns, we tend to feel defeated. We judge each day that the painful circumstance occurs as a bad day…and everyday it’s absent…as an okay-day. Bottom line…our focus becomes very negative.
But Christ shows us a better way. A positive way. When the problem is absent…we should rejoice and thank Him. And when the pain or discomfort returns then we should look to Him and affirm our trust in Him.
We must ask the Holy Spirit to help us keep our focus on Christ…especially when whatever ails us is most intense.
If we do this consistently, we will find ourselves in a win-win situation…but more importantly, we will no longer be letting our circumstances control and dictate the quality of our lives.
It is my prayer today that we will rejoice and be glad-hearted continually, no matter what is happening. We must be unceasing in prayer…praying perseveringly…and thanking God in everything – no matter what our circumstances may be…amen!
