“Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.”
There are times when we are interrupted during what seems to be quite productive work…it comes in various forms. It could be that some government official refuses to give us the permits we need forcing us to go back. Or it could be a sudden sickness that comes and forces us to rest.
During such times, it is difficult for us to leave our work unfinished especially when we believe that our work is a service to God.
But we must remember that God requires not only a service of work…but also a service of waiting. We must come to see that in the kingdom of Christ, there are not only times for action…there are also times to refrain from action.
Therefore, no matter what work we do or what projects we have, let us desire to be led by the Holy Spirit. And not be disappointed when doors that appear open for us close just as we are about to enter.
May God inspire us with the knowledge that a person may sometimes be called to serve by doing nothing…by staying still…by waiting…
I pray that we will discern the leading of the Holy Spirit and not complain (or blame the Devil) when God puts us on pause and will not allow us to proceed…amen.
