“Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
The practice of seeing ourselves through the eyes of other people has real dangers associated with it.
First of all, it is nearly impossible to discern what others actually think of us. Moreover, their view of us is subject to their own spiritual, emotional, and physical condition.
The major danger with letting others define us is that it borders on idolatry…our concern to please them dampens our desire to please God, our Creator.
It is much more real to see ourselves through God’s eyes, because His gaze upon us is steady and sure, and untainted by sin.
Today let us pray that through His eyes only, we will each see ourselves as a person who is deeply, and eternally loved…and that as a reward for seeking Him earnestly in spirit and in truth, we will rest in His loving gaze, and receive deep peace…amen!
