“Glorify ye the LORD in the fires.”
Isaiah 24:15
The key to this scripture is the word “in”.
We are to honor the Lord in the trial…in the very thing that afflicts us…in the heat of the fire…that is precisely where we are to glorify God.
When Meschach, Shadrach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace they came out unscathed because they trusted the Lord… so it is with us. When we trust in God…He will remove our shackles in the furnace of affliction!
These three men came out of the fire unhurt. According to scripture the fire did “not harm their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them” (Daniel 3:27).
This is the way we should come out of the furnace of fiery trials. Liberated from our shackles and untouched by the flames. Not drawn with sad faces saying, “woe is me”.
We should emerge untouched by the flames of sickness, divorce, drug addiction, death of a loved one. We should emerge liberated from and triumphant over all adverse circumstances of this life.
There is something captivating about the sight of a person burdened with many trials, yet who is as lighthearted as the sound of a bell.
In fact there is something contagious and valiant in seeing others who are greatly tempted but are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37).
Let us pray that when this life tries us…we will emerge a God-held wonder. Satisfied, and calm, and free. Amen!
