Custom-made Garments

“I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Isaiah 61:10

God has custom-made for us robes of righteousness, to cover us from head to toe. And the price He paid for them was astronomical. His own blood.

We could never purchase such royal garments, no matter how hard we worked. But oftentimes we forget that His righteousness is a gift, and so we feel ill at ease in our regal robe.

Christ weeps when He sees us squirming under the velvety fabric. As if it were made of scratchy sackcloth.

He wants us to trust Him enough to realize our privileged position in His kingdom.

He wants us to relax in the luxuriant folds of our magnificent robe.

He wants us to keep our eyes on Him as we practice walking in this garment of salvation.

But naturally, sometimes we trip. We will stumble. Even fall.

And when we do…when our behavior is unfitting for one in His kingdom, we must not try to throw off our royal robe. Instead, we must throw off the unrighteous behavior.

I pray that we will take on a new way of thinking. A new attitude and put on the new self. The self that is created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness…amen!
