“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Understanding will never bring us peace, and that is why God instructs us to trust in Him, and not in our understanding.
Most of us have a voracious appetite for trying to figure things out in order to gain a sense of mastery over our lives…but the world presents us with an endless series of problems.
It seems as though as soon as we master one set of issues…another pops up to challenge us. And ultimately the relief we had anticipated is short-lived. Soon our minds are gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery) instead of seeking God (our Master).
The wisest of all men, Solomon, could never think his way through to peace…his vast understanding resulted in feelings of futility, rather than in fulfilment. And eventually, he lost his way and succumbed to the will of His wives by worshiping idols.
God’s Peace is not an elusive goal hidden at the center of some complicated maze. Actually, we are always enveloped in His Peace, which is inherent in His Presence. We just need to pause and feel Him.
It is my prayer that as we begin this week, the Lord of peace Himself give us peace at all times and in every way…amen!
