“Because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will . . . make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky . . . because you have obeyed me.”
Abraham’s experience was not unique or isolated…it is only an example and a pattern of how God deals with those who are prepared to obey Him at whatever cost.
When we truly sacrifice…i.e. when we surrender everything we own and accept poverty…God sends wealth.
When we leave a good job at His command….He provides one better than we had ever dreamed.
When we surrender all our cherished hopes and die to self…God sends overflowing joy and life “that [we] might have it more abundantly” John 10:10.
When we give our all to God…moment of our greatest sacrifice will also be the precise moment of our greatest and most miraculous blessing.
Dear God, help me to believe that there is nothing You will not do for me if I dare to step out in faith into what appears to be only a mist. Grant me the grace to believe that in the face of nothingness I can trust you…take that first step…and will find solid rock beneath my feet…amen!
