Thought medication

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.”

Psalm 139:23–24

Whatever occupies our mind the most becomes our god.

Worries, if indulged, develop into idols…And anxiety can gain a life of its own, parasitically infesting our minds.

If we would see stress, worry, and all the negative thoughts that fill our minds as being as debilitating as the bondage of a migraine or a toothache…then we would just as urgently take medication to free ourselves from that discomfort.

That medication is scripture!

The double edged Word of God is the only thing that affirms our trust in God and releases us from the dis-ease of fear and stress and worry.

Prayer

Dear God, help me to guard my thoughts diligently…allowing only good thought-choices to keep me close to You. But where I fail, remind me to turn immediately to Your Holy Word for relief. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
