“When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”
Many voices vie for control of our minds…and as we mature in our faith we must learn to discern what is God’s voice and what is not.
Knowing God’s voice is not about sound…it is about content. When we know the Word of God (our Bible) we will never confuse His voice (His message) with another.
Many of us run around in circles, trying to obey the various voices directing our lives…and in the end we have a very fragmented, frustrating patterns of living.
Then we blame God for leading us astray while in reality it is we who sometimes followed God and at other times followed what they thought was God.
When Jesus says, “my sheep know my voice”. He means, my people know what I will say and what I will not say.
Dear God, I know sometimes I go down a path thinking You’ve asked me to only to realize years later that it was a mistake. I pray that You will give me the discipline to read and know Your Word in order that I may know Your nature…hear only Your voice and follow wherever You lead me. Amen.
