“Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.”
The delay in Israel’s lifetime that seemed to put God’s promise well beyond fulfillment was actually just a delay…because in the end the promise was fulfilled, and Israel did “come out with great possessions.”
God is going to test us with delays…and along with the delays will come suffering…yet through it all God’s promises will stand.
The delays and the suffering are actually just part of the promise…
So as we patiently wait for Him to deliver on His promise to us…let us thank Him and praise Him for them today.
Dear God, I honestly don’t feel like praising you when what You have promised me has delayed. But I know You will never fail me, so my prayer today is that that for all the things I’m waiting on…counting on…and looking forward to…I ask that through Your grace, I will “be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD” (Psalm 27:14)…Amen.
