“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
When we open ourselves up to God, His being is alive within us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. And so even as we listen to other people…we must learn to listen to God.
When others call on us for help, the Holy Spirit is who should speak though us. But if we respond through our own thought processes, we offer them less than God desires for them to have.
However, if we allow the Spirit to empower our listening and speaking…streams of living water flow through us to other people.
Therefore, we have a responsibility to depend less on our own ability and ask Him to think through us, live through us, and love through us.
Dear God, Grant me the grace to listen to You especially when others seek my counsel…so that I may be a channel of Your Love, Joy, and Peace. Amen.
