Being overshadowed

“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Luke 1:35

In as much as the Angel seemed to be giving Mary an instruction, Mary at no point was under obligation to accept this offer. Had she refused, the Angel and the offer would have moved on.

So it is with us….we have the right and the will to accept or refuse to be overshadowed by God’s Holy Spirit.

To be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit is to receive power. Not in a domineering, dominating sense…but in a loving and patient way that seeks to bend our will to do God’s will.

As the Holy Spirit presents Himself to us each day and in every situation, let our response be like Mary’s, “I am the Lord’s servant,” and with that response, may we serve God with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind

Prayer

Dear God, Let Your Holy Spirit, overshadow me today with Your presence, and help me to bend my wills to do Your will. Amen
