“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
If everyone took this scripture to heart the word mediocre would be eliminated from our vocabulary.
Unfortunately many of us believe we’re working for ‘the man’ or ‘the government’ or some kind of ‘other’ and so we put in just enough to get by.
The result is what we see today…where the quality of our education and the authenticity of our media suggests that no particular moral standards or values are important.
Essentially, it doesn’t really matter what we do or say…as long as we get ahead and it makes us happy.
But when we recognize that all we do, we do for an excellent God, we will not be able to help but strive for excellence.
Dear God, I know I don’t always put my best foot forward. And even when I do, I encourage mediocrity by ignoring it when I see it in others. Please grant me the strength to honor You always by giving You my best…in all things and at all times. Amen.
