Victory out of seeming defeat

“We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure…But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God…”

2 Corinthians 1:8-9

Stress has a way of bending us out of shape.

It makes us behave in uncharacteristic ways, and makes us more vulnerable than ever to temptation.

We snap at people, lose patience when we need it most, and sometimes spiral down into depression.

And this happens because we have taken our eyes off God and are focusing only on our problems.

Dear God, I’m stressed because things are not going the way I had expected or hoped. Help me to see that You can bring victory out of seeming defeat. Grant me the grace to be courageous, and the wisdom to continue to trust You when things are beyond my control. Amen
