“Will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?”
The point of the parable of the judge and the old lady is not that God needs to be begged like a crooked judge in order to answer our prayer.
The point is that if even a crooked judge eventually comes through, how much more will the God who loves justice respond to the prayers of His people!
Through this parable Jesus teaches us to pray constantly…in faith…and not to lose heart.
Hannah prayed, and God gave her a son who helped lead the people of Israel.
David prayed, and God forgave his sins and protected him from his enemies.
Daniel prayed, and he was able to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.
What requests do we want to bring to God today?
Dear God, I’m so used to thinking of You as a transactional god, that when I pray a little and I don’t see results, I start thinking of ways to bribe You. Help me to see that I can always come to you with nothing but faith and You will hear me and answer me. Amen.
