“About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.”
One of the most neglected details about this story is that it starts with Jesus and His friends going up the mountain to pray.
Something happens when we pray.
Something physical and practical happens in our lives when we commit our issues to prayer. And although there may be so much that we don’t understand about prayer…we must admit that on a practical level, prayer changes things.
The detail about prayer in this story is not incidental. It is a hint to us that if we want to see any real transformation in our lives…we must begin with prayer.
Dear God, I often relegate prayer to the background, in favor of going to church, being a part of various fellowships, and doing all the things people can see. But when Your Son wanted to be transfigured He went away privately with only a few of those He trusted and He prayed to You. That was what preceded the change. Teach me to follow the example of Your son. Amen
