“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.”
What’s our biggest problem today?
Maybe our boss is toxic, or our spouse wants out…or maybe we’ve been unable to have children.
Some of us are facing a problem or crisis right now that’s so overwhelming, that we just can’t see how there can be any joy in it.
But God wants us to know that our biggest challenges can be our best opportunities to become wiser and stronger.
James lived in a time when Christians were persecuted and scattered across the nations like refugees, so he knew exactly what it is to live in a world like ours that is broken, sinful, and filled with problems.
But James shifted his attitude and changed his expectations to realize that problems are normal and they do happen.
Like him, we must learn to view our problems as opportunities for us to learn, grow, and gain endurance. Endurance that will make us more mature and complete, not lacking in anything…and able to handle anything that life throws at us.
Dear God, You know my challenges at work, home, school, and in my marriage. Help me like James to shift my perspective and consider each of my problems an opportunity for great joy. Help me to come out on the other side of each of them, stronger, wiser and better equipped to receive the crown of life that You have promised to those who love You. Amen.
