“Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children.””
Luke 10:21
Jesus sent out 72 followers to heal the sick and spread the Good News.
They returned pleased and excited that they had been given power to do Jesus’ work. They said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!”
Luke reports that Jesus was also filled with joy at this news, that He praised God that the Good News is more readily received by little children than the wise and learned.
This upside-down nature of God’s kingdom can be hard for us to accept, especially when society values the strong, powerful, and independent over the weak, helpless, and dependent of our world.
But if we recognize that our only true strength comes from God, then we will be content to go through life accepting that sometimes its okay to be vulnerable, and unsure of what to do. Because through faith, Jesus gives wisdom to His children who don’t have it all figured out.
Prayer
Dear God, I often feel like the only way I can succeed is to always know exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Help me to recognize that it is just pride. Help me to be humble and through my humility, fill me with the wisdom I need to get through this week. In Your Son’s name we pray, Amen.
Amen

Jesus added, “rejoice that your names are written in the book of life”. In effect the demons responded to their identity. The joy of being with Jesus!
