From the ordinary to the extraordinary

“Simon answered, ‘Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.’”

Luke 5:5-6

Peter and the others had good reason to be fishing. It was their livelihood.

They probably thought they would be fishing for the rest of their lives. And there would have been nothing wrong with that.

But God had something else in mind for them. Imagine what they would have missed out on if they had declined Jesus’ invitation and remained in their boats…

We certainly wouldn’t be discussing them today!

Often we miss out on our life’s purpose because we are so focused on what we have decided is our life’s mission, that even when God is yelling out to us to do something different we refuse to consider it.

Let us learn to pay attention and hear from God, and not get so caught up in the business of secular life that we miss the magnificent call of Christ.

Prayer

Dear God, open my eyes and ears to what You would have me do and where You would have me go. Help us to see beyond the ordinary to the extraordinary. In Jesus’ name…Amen.
