If even the wind and the waves obey Him…

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.”

Luke 8:24-25

It’s easy to trust Jesus while sitting on a grassy slope listening reverently to His words. It’s easy to have faith when we see God increase us from one level to another. But on those days when we are on the stormy lake, it seemed as if nothing is certain anymore. So we doubt.

We doubt despite the fact that we’ve seen Him raise a widow’s son from the dead, heal a paralyzed man, and befuddle religious leaders. His loving acceptance of broken people has made our soul sing! His authority is undeniable! Yet when we are trouble we doubt Him. We forget that He is Lord of Heaven and Earth.

Each of us must identify one instance when God delivered us just like He did the Disciples, and  store it in our souls, so that when another storm comes, we will think of what we learned and trust that if “Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (Mark 4:41), how much more whatever is bothering us?

Prayer

Dear God, forgive me for doubting You. Thank You for Your peace that sustains me in every storm. And help me to remember and trust You in everything I face. Amen.

  1. My Lord and my God, strengthen me in my weakness and increase my faith in you to know that you are with me at all times through good times and the difficult times too, in Jesus’ name I pray with thanksgiving.
