“You Pharisees clean the outside…but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.”
Today, many of us claim Christianity, but in reality we are Pharisees.
We practice a religion that is preoccupied with the outward appearance of things rather than with the inward transformation of our being. What attracts us to a church is not a desire in our to hearts to be cleansed, rather we are drawn to churches that feed on our senses, and on our material ambitions.
True Christianity is about cleansing from the inside out. And it is practiced through a myriad of interactions with God. It requires daily time in prayer, meditation on the Word, and personal fellowship with God. This is the only way a Christian can truly grow and be ready to face the challenges of everyday life.
We need to each pause and check ourselves, asking these questions, “Do I put more time and energy into outside activities…so that I appear to be a good Christian? Or am I working on me from the inside so that I can be a true disciple?”
Dear God, steer me away from superficial religion. Help me to grow inside so that I may glow on the outside with love, truth, and righteousness. Amen.
