“Do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?”
In the game Hide-and-Seek, the only way for one child to know that another child’s eyes are open, is for he himself to open his eyes. So if open-eyes is sin, then it means the only way to recognize sin in another person is when we ourselves are guilty of that same sin.
This is why Paul says that when we judge someone else’s actions, we are also judging ourselves…because judging claims to know something about truth. And if we know enough truth to judge someone else, then we obviously know that truth for ourselves too.
The odd thing is that, like children, we still point out others’ faults and think we can get away with our own faults. But God’s plan is for us to understand that the purpose of His “kindness is intended to lead [us] to repentance” of our own sin and not judgement of others’ sins.
Dear God, thank You for Your kindness, forbearance, and patience. Thank You for recognizing the folly of my ways, and forgiving me and pointing me in the right direction, Amen.
