“The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.”
When Jesus was born, only a few people saw the kingdom coming. Simeon and Anna were waiting for Jesus’ arrival, but that was pretty much it.
Jesus said the people at that time were like servants who had forgotten their place. Because their master took such a long time to show up, they began to act as if they owned the place. They started bullying their fellow servants, and ate and drank in excess. But the wise and faithful servants were the ones who were ready for service when their master came.
They are the ones who today are feeding the poor, sponsoring refugees, volunteering at food banks and shelters, and more. In these last few months of the year, let us consider how we can serve, so that we will not be taken by surprise when our Master returns.
Dear God, fill me with Your love. Show me how to serve my neighbors. Help me to be prepared for Your coming. In Your name I pray. Amen.
