Baptism and Suffering

“I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!”

Luke 12:50

When Jesus looked ahead to the cross, He exclaimed, “I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!” He knew He would soon have to deal with intense suffering.

As believers in Christ, we need to understand that being associated with Jesus through baptism means that we too may have to deal with suffering. Contrary to popular belief, Christianity is not all about prosperity…yes there is prosperity…but there is also the cross.

The path of following Jesus may not always be easy. But it is redemptive…and often God uses our suffering and our brokenness for His use.

Prayer

Dear God, Your Word speaks to me in honest and bracing ways about my calling as your servant. Give me courage to live as your child, knowing that by Your baptism I also may suffer. Amen.

  1. The ups and downs in christianity is not stable but the lord always lends a hand. May his blessings and guidance never leave us alone in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Amen
