Only God truly knows us

“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.”

Psalm 139:1

Different people know us in different ways.  Our best friend at work may know exactly how we feel about our boss, but it is our dentist who knows which of our teeth need to be capped. Our children can sense when we’re in a bad mood, and our spouse may be able to finish our sentences.

All these people know aspects of us well…some more than others…but it is only God who knows everything about us. He knows what foods we are allergic to.  He knows how we feel about each of the people in our lives, from our closest family member to our most distant friend.  He even knows everything we have said, done or thought in private.

But unlike people, who tend to use their knowledge about us against us, God uses His knowledge about us for us.  God will never blackmail us emotionally, or mock us in front of others.  Rather He works with us through His Holy Spirit to strengthen our weaknesses. He helps us to correct our negative thinking about others. And He rescues us where we have sinned and fallen short of His glory.

He knows we are sinners. And His response is not to mock, belittle, or threaten…but to send a Savior.

Dear God, remind me that I always have you to turn to as the one person who knows me through and through. When I am down, please test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the path of righteousness. Amen

  1. Amen. The love of God is fanthomless sometimes I can’t believe what he does for me. I’ll continue to ask for his Grace and mercy at all times. Amen
