“He said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.’”
Jesus is far less interested in our finances than we think.
He knows that in comparison to Him, we are just as poor as the widow. As such, He weighs the value of our contribution rather than the amount we contribute. As Paul explained in 2 Corinthians 8:12, “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.”
Therefore the generosity of the widow should remain a model for us in that it should teach us to be humble, self-sacrificing, and totally dependent on God…regardless of our financial status.
Dear God, in comparison to You, I know that I am like the widow with a mite. Teach me to give of myself sacrificially, and teach me to be totally dependent on You regardless of how much money I have. Amen
