“At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.”
As odd as this prayer seems, Jesus is actually rejoicing in the success of His Disciples.
He is proud and happy because He knows that as we grow older, we become world-weary, and our childlike sense of wonder gets lost. He also knows that as adults, we look without seeing and listen without hearing.
And with this all-too-human backdrop, He was joyful. And He thanked God that despite this ‘handicap,’ there are still many who have come to believe and trust with childlike faith.
Believing is the act of a child. In this four-week season of Advent, let us practice through our everyday situations that childlike faith in Christ so that He can celebrate us too.
Dear God, please make me sensitive to Your self-revelation in the everyday events of my life. Help me to trust in You with childlike trust. Amen
