Yoke choices

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

A yoke is always carried by two animals. So in this scripture, Jesus is not suggesting that we will live free from any yoke…He’s simply giving us options on who’s yoke we should carry.

That choice is ours alone to make, and there are several partners to choose from. We can choose the yoke of money, friends, status…the list is endless. Then, of course, we can choose the yoke of Christ.

The difference between Jesus’ yoke and all the other yoke options is that the yoke of Christ comes with only this burden; that we must love the Lord our God with all our hearts.

Dear God, I know I am the author and creator of all my pain. Because I have consistently chosen the wrong partners to walk through life with. Thank You for Your offer. Grant me the boldness to accept it and run with it without looking back. Amen.
