“This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.”
Jesus genealogy doesn’t exactly spell pedigree. Of the five women featured, four of them were gentiles. And a few of them were notable sinners, like Judah and King David. But more than tell us that Jesus is not blue-blooded, this genealogy highlights the inclusivity of His mission.
Paul says in Galatians 3:28-29: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Dear God, as I await Christmas, remind me that no matter my race, my gender, or my sins…I still belong to You. Remind me that as Abraham’s seed, I am an heir according to the promise. Amen.
