“Then he said to them, ‘The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.’”
Lately the church seems to have reverted back to a very Pharasaic sort of Judaism. So caught up in nitpicking legalism that even attending church has became a measuring stick for righteousness instead of a day of worship, joy, and rest in the Lord.
Jesus in this Gospel reminds us of the original intent of the Sabbath…which is to take cognizance of the presence of God, worship Him, and most importantly enjoy Him.
Jesus is the Lord over all things…and He has granted us permission to enjoy Him, rest in Him, and eat with Him. Let’s stop stressing over rules and regulations and allow Jesus to be Lord over our lives.
Dear God, I know sometimes in an effort to protect the faith, I point out peoples shortcomings instead of walking in complete freedom with You…and allowing them to do the same. Forgive me, Lord, and help me to help others find rest in You. Amen.
