Rejecting the Son

“Finally he sent his son to them, saying, “They will respect my son.” But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, “This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.””

Matthew 21:37-38

The parable is clear. The tenants (all of us) refuse to pay the rent. The rent collectors (priest and prophets) get beaten up. The landlord’s son (Jesus) is killed. And the story doesn’t end well for the tenants.

Jesus develops the further point. The builders rejected the very stone that would become the cornerstone. The Jews rejected the son who would become the Holy One.

And we depending on how it suits us often reject Christ because He makes life inconvenient for us. Every time we choose our way over His way, we reject Christ.

Dear God, I know I’m sometimes on-again and off-again with You. Teach me never to reject You no matter the circumstance. Amen.

Let’s all be safe in the face of COVID-19 and keep each other in our prayers. Amen.
