“Jesus said to him, ‘Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times”
C.S. Lewis wrote: “Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive.” And this is where most of us have a problem. We get so caught up in what the other party is ‘getting away with’ that Jesus’ view point seems unfair.
But forgiveness from Jesus’ point of view has nothing to do with the other person…it’s all about us. When we fail to forgive, we are shackled to the evil which has been done to us. And we cannot move forward.
So as we hold onto our grudges and our right to be peeved, let’s ask ourselves the following questions: Are we free? Or are we tied to resentments?
Dear God, thank You for forgiving me seventy-seven times and more. Give me the grace to forgive someone today. Amen.
