Faith to foster

When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son..

Matthew 1:24-25

Joseph gets the all the credit for being the ideal foster parent, but he hardly gets any credit for his faith.

He suppressed his doubts about Mary’s chastity and allowed himself to be regarded as the father of her child, knowing that he wasn’t. And he did this based on one dream.

He believed God and brought Jesus up as his own. Despite great difficulties and dangers, particularly at the start. He taught him his trade and raised Him into a virile healthy adult with physical stamina, courage, and strength…all proof of good parenting by his foster-father.

What about us? Who have we taken under our wing? Do we trust God enough to take at least one of his children and groom them in the physical in order that God may use them spiritually?

Dear God, there are so many youngsters looking for guidance to get them through life. Open my eyes and give me the faith to mentor and guide at least one of Your most precious ones, in order that You may use them. Amen.
