No reason to worry

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Mark 6:50

Are you anxious?

If yes, you are not alone. The world is full of anxious people

Between unemployment, inflation, and the rising cost of fuel and food…there seems to be plenty to worry about.

But if we look carefully at the message behind this story in the life of Jesus and His disciples, we will find we have absolutely no reason to worry.

In the middle of the night the disciples found themselves struggling against strong winds. And suddenly they saw Jesus walking out on the water.

Naturally, they shouted because…it’s kind of scary to see someone walking on water. We would have shouted too. They thought He was a ghost and they were petrified.

Immediately Jesus reassured them, saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” He knew that they were having a hard time with the wind and the waves. And He did the seemingly impossible just to reach them and help them out.

Same with us…Jesus knows we’re struggling with the myriad of problems our world presents. And He will go all out…literally walk on water…just to save us.

So let’s not fear, but trust. Let’s turn over our fears to the God who controls the universe and cares for us.

Dear God, I am often worried about a number of things. Replace my fears with confidence in You. And help me remember that I am always safe in Your hands. Amen.
